4.2 magnitude earthquake strikes Assam | Guwahati News – Times of India


NEW DELHI: An earthquake measuring 4.2 on the Richter scale struck north-central Assam on Sunday morning, according to an official report.
The National Center for Seismology noted that the tremor occurred at 7.47 am in Udalguri district on the northern bank of the Brahmaputra River, with its epicenter at a depth of 15 km.
The epicenter was located approximately 105 km north of Guwahati and 48 km west of Tezpur, close to the Assam-Arunachal Pradesh border.Residents in the adjacent districts of Darrang, Tamulpur, Sonitpur, Kamrup, and Biswanath experienced the quake. Additionally, areas on the southern bank of the Brahmaputra, including Kamrup Metropolitan, Morigaon, and Nagaon, felt the tremors.
The quake’s impact extended to parts of western Arunachal Pradesh and eastern Bhutan. There have been no immediate reports of injuries or property damage.
The northeastern region is known for its high seismic activity, resulting in frequent earthquakes.
