ICC suffer huge financial loss during T20 World Cup – SUCH TV

The International Cricket Council (ICC) has reportedly incurred losses of approximately USD 20 million for hosting the T20 World Cup 2024 matches in the United States of America, according to Indian media reports on Thursday.

This is expected to be a major topic of discussion during the ICC Annual Conference, which commences on Friday in Colombo.

Although the topic is not included in the nine-point agenda of the Annual General Meeting (AGM), it will be addressed as part of a “post-event report”.

A significant portion of the tournament was held in the USA, including the highly anticipated match between India and Pakistan, which took place in New York.

Another major topic to be discussed during the AGM is BCCI secretary Jay Shah replacing Greg Barclay as the ICC chairman. According to an ICC source, one of the main areas of interest for everyone at the ICC is when Shah will assume the leadership of the world body.

“It is not about how but when, as he still has one year left as BCCI secretary before his cooling off period in the Indian board starts in 2025 as per the constitution. However, if he has to take over in 2025, then Barclay can’t complete his third term of two years from December 2024 to December 2026,” ICC source told.

“There is a school of thought that what if ICC’s chairmanship term changes from three terms of two years each to two terms of three years, so the cumulative term can remain six years.”

It is widely believed that if Barclay’s current term extends to three years, Shah can complete his six years as BCCI secretary and assume the role of ICC chairman in 2025 for a three-year term during his cooling-off period from the BCCI. Then, in 2028, he can return and take over as board president.
