Weather update: PMD predicts scattered thunderstorms across Pakistan | The Express Tribune


Moist currents from the Arabian Sea are moving into the southern and central parts of Pakistan, with a trough of shallow westerly wave expected to impact upper and southern regions within the next 12 to 24 hours, according to a Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) statement.

On Thursday, isolated places in central and northeast Punjab, Islamabad, and south Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa are likely to experience windstorms and thunderstorms in the afternoon.

By evening and night, the statement added, these weather conditions are expected to extend to Azad Jammu and Kashmir, Gilgit-Baltistan, upper Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa, northeast Balochistan, and central and southern Punjab. Other parts of the country will remain hot and dry.

Friday’s forecast indicates isolated windstorms and thunderstorms in AJK, G-B, K-P, south Punjab, and northeast Balochistan. Hot and dry weather will prevail elsewhere.

Over the past 24 hours, most of Pakistan experienced hot and dry conditions, with very hot weather in southern regions. However, isolated places in the Pothohar region, central and southern Punjab, Kashmir, Gilgit-Baltistan, and upper Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa saw windstorms and thunderstorms.

Rainfall recorded in millimetres: Punjab – Jhelum 15, Gujranwala 13, Mangla 12, Narowal 11, Sialkot (A/P 05, City 03), Mandi Bahauddin 05, Multan (City 02, A/P 01), Sahiwal 02, Gujrat 01; Kashmir – Garhi Dupatta 01; Gilgit-Baltistan – Skardu, Astore 01; Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa – Pattan 01.

The highest temperatures recorded yesterday were: Sibbi 49°C, Jacobabad, Turbat, Noorpurthal 48°C, Bhakkar and Sargodha 47°C.
