At least three people were killed when their passenger bus erupted in a fire on the National Highway near Uthal, Geo News reported on Thursday.
The ill-fated bus was en route to Quetta from Karachi. The accident took place overnight in Wayaro near Uthal.
Many passengers reportedly saved their lives by jumping out of the burning vehicle. However, several passengers are still feared to be trapped inside.
Rescue teams extinguished the fire and took seven wounded people from the bus. The highway was blocked after the accident which led to traffic disruptions on the road.
Humaira Baloch, Deputy Commissioner of Lasbela, said that rescue teams were dispatched to the accident site as soon as the accident was reported. “Hospital staff have been alerted due to the risk of casualties,” she added.
According to sources, there were 28 passengers on board. The cause of the fire remains unknown.
