Punjab govt challenges Sanam Javed’s case dismissal in Supreme Court | The Express Tribune

The Punjab government has challenged the Lahore High Court’s decision to discharge Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) leader Sanam Javed from a Gujranwala case in the Supreme Court.

This appeal, led by Maryam Nawaz, seeks to overturn the ruling made by a two-member bench headed by Justice Asjad Ghural.

The Lahore High Court had previously ordered the release of Sanam Javed, citing insufficient evidence to proceed with the charges related to the events of May 9.

Following her release, Javed was re-arrested in connection with other cases filed across multiple cities.

Sanam Javed had been detained in Lahore and faced numerous allegations stemming from various incidents on May 9.

After the high court’s decision, the Islamabad High Court also intervened, preventing her transfer to Quetta police custody and ordering her release.

The Punjab government argues that the High Court’s decision to discharge Javed was premature and seeks a review by the Supreme Court to ensure a thorough examination of the charges against her.

This appeal underscores the ongoing legal challenges faced by PTI leaders amidst the current political climate.

The Supreme Court’s forthcoming decision will determine whether the High Court’s ruling will be upheld or overturned, potentially impacting the broader legal landscape for political cases in Pakistan.
