Financial incentives boost US athletes at Paris Olympics | The Express Tribune

As the Olympic Games progress, attention has turned to track and field events, with several US athletes expected to shine.

While the US Olympic Committee provides financial rewards of $37,500 for gold medal winners, $22,500 for silver, and $15,000 for bronze, additional support from notable figures is further motivating these athletes.

Prominent individuals like Alexis Ohanian, Serena Williams’ husband, and former NFL players Shannon Sharpe and Chad Johnson have pledged substantial bonuses to incentivise US athletes at the Paris 2024 Olympics. Ohanian has promised a $200,000 bonus to sprinter Gabby Thomas if she wins a gold medal, demonstrating his confidence in her abilities. This gesture underscores the enthusiasm and support for American athletes as they compete on the world stage.

Meanwhile, Sharpe and Johnson, also known as Ochocinco, have announced additional financial incentives. Sharpe has offered $50,000 to any athlete who breaks an Olympic record, while Johnson has expressed his belief in the potential of US athletes by pledging similar support. These financial rewards are not just about motivation; they recognise the dedication and hard work these athletes have invested in preparing for the Olympics over the years.

The Olympics have already seen impressive performances, with Simone Biles earning a couple of gold medals in gymnastics and Léon Marchand securing four golds in swimming. With swimming events nearing their conclusion, the focus is now on track and field, where US athletes are expected to make significant achievements.
