Three years ago, a vivid oil painting of Jesus in a crown of thorns was about to go on auction for around $1,600. Originally believed to be from the school of a Spanish artist, experts made a dramatic discovery — it was instead thought to be a long-lost work by the Italian master Caravaggio.
