Emilia Clarke almost left Game of Thrones over serious brain injury

Emilia Clarke gets candid about her health battle

Emilia Clarke recently revealed that she feared being fired from Game of Thrones following her brain injury.

After falling prey to two health emergencies during her time on the highly-acclaimed series, the Daenerys Targaryen actress revealed her insecurities “quadrupled overnight.”

Speaking to The Big Issue on Monday, June 10, the 37-year-old actress shared: “When you have a brain injury, because it alters your sense of self on such a dramatic level, all of the insecurities you have going into the workplace quadruple overnight.”

Clarke, who suffered a brain hemorrhage in February 2011 and another brain bleed later in 2013, added: “The first fear we all had was: ‘Oh my God, am I going to get fired? Am I going to get fired because they think I’m not capable of completing the job?'”

Emilia claimed that she worried about her condition, being associated with such a large production.

She recalled thinking at the time: “Well, if I’m going to die, I better die on live TV.”

The Game of Thrones alum initially opened up about her brain injuries in an essay for The New Yorker in March 2019, just ahead of the final season of GoT.
